History
| Russell was founded in 1902 by Benjamin Russell in Alexander City, Alabama, USA. In the early 1920s, they created the world's first prototype sweatshirt, and in 1938, they developed the world's first rubber print (the prototype of modern American rubber prints). Subsequently, using this technology, they popularized sweatshirts with school names and logos in schools and colleges across the US, and in university bookstores. In the 1980s and 90s, they signed supplier contracts with American professional sports leagues (NFL, MLB), establishing Russell's "R" mark (Eagle R) across the United States. This is why it's said, "Without realizing it, every American's closet contains Russell apparel." |
