History
| Russell was started in 1902 by Benjamin Russell in Alexander City, Alabama, USA. In the early 1920s, they created the world's first prototype sweatshirt, and in 1938, they developed the world's first rubber print (the origin of modern American rubber printing). Subsequently, using this technology, they popularized sweatshirts with school names and logos in schools, colleges, and university bookstores across the U.S. In the 1980s and 90s, they signed supplier contracts with American professional sports leagues (NFL, MLB), establishing Russell's "R" mark (Eagle R) across the nation. This is why it is said that "Americans have Russell apparel in their closets without even realizing it." |
